HISTORY

This year, Filipino Night takes on the form of a play that pays tribute to the late Bob Santos and the Gang of Four.

As a local Filipino American social and political activist, Bob Santos, known as Uncle Bob, dedicated a large portion of his life maintaining and revitalizing Seattle's own International District. Through the late 1960s and 1970s, Uncle Bob began to fight for the rights of Asian Americans and other marginalized communities living in the International District, working to preserve the people and place that he called home. We continue to remember and carry on his legacy today.

This play incorporates the stories and cultural communities of Larry Gossett, Bernie Whitebear, and Roberto Maestas--political leaders that later banded together with Uncle Bob to form Seattle's legendary Gang of Four. This Filipino Night seeks to show action, collaboration, and solidarity across cultural boundaries.
